1. Role Purpose

The Managing Quantity Surveyor / Senior Project Quantity Surveyor is responsible for leading the commercial and contractual management of major infrastructure projects, ensuring effective cost control, risk management and contract performance while maximizing project profitability.

The role also includes leading the commercial team and supporting strategic decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

2. Role Context

• Major infrastructure project valued at approximately £200 million
• Part of a long-term infrastructure programme valued at up to £2 billion through 2035
• Opportunity to work within the UK Tier 1 infrastructure construction market
• Close collaboration with Project Directors, Contracts Managers and engineering teams

3. Reporting Structure

Reports to:

Commercial Director / Contracts Manager

• Quantity Surveyors
• Assistant Quantity Surveyors
• Commercial Assistants

Commercial Management

• Lead the commercial strategy of the project
• Manage project cost control and financial forecasting
• Monitor project budgets and cash flow
• Prepare and present monthly commercial reports

Contract Management

• Administer construction contracts and subcontract agreements
• Manage contractual variations and change orders
• Ensure contractual compliance across project activities

Claims and Variations Management

• Manage contractual claims and dispute processes
• Handle Extension of Time (EOT) submissions
• Prepare commercial and contractual documentation

Risk Management

• Maintain and update risk and opportunity registers
• Identify commercial risks and mitigation strategies
• Support project teams in risk evaluation and mitigation

Subcontractor Management

• Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers
• Manage subcontractor packages and commercial performance
• Ensure alignment with project budget and schedule

Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor the commercial team
• Support the development of Quantity Surveyors and Assistants
• Ensure high standards of commercial governance
